Homer Spurlock & Doc Shotgun
The Case of the Wild Man of Blooming Grove, a cowboy detective serial by Tom Moore, from the Blooming Grove Community News, 2009 to 2011.
In April 2009 a note arrived by jackrabbit. Texas Ranger Homer Spurlock and his pard Doc Shotgun were to find out who the Wild Man of Blooming Grove was, the stranger found locked in the cage in the park near the playground.
Tom Moore, who signed his work DiggyDog, kept the case going for two years. Notes came by tortoise, armadillo, heron, bat and a twelve-point buck. The Knights of the Round Silo rode in salvage sports armor. The Queen of England got pulled over in Frost by E, the King of Police. It ended at the Super Bowl in the Round Silo.
These pages are selections, one for each issue. The first three episodes are here in full. From the rest we picked Tom's best scenes and left out the parts that lean on accents and stereotypes. The words are Tom's, as the paper printed them, with only line breaks and a few missing quote marks fixed.
One episode, from the fall of 2009, is missing from the library's files. The November issue sums it up: Doc met a Civil War veteran, Princess Poi-Poi Mahi Mahi got a nice old Jaguar, and Arthur Bardwell found the Crown of King Arthur. If you have that issue, we'd love to see it.
More of Tom's writing is on the DiggyDog page.
Stay tuned for the further adventures of Homer Spurlock and Doc Shotgun, as Homer brings into play his awesome powers of nonductive reasoning in a Herculean effort to solve the baffling case of: The Wild Man of Blooming GroveTom's sign-off, April 2009
