This is a 1921 adverstising calendar given away by Huffstutler's Dry Goods store in Blooming Grove, featuring a lovely victorian lady in bright red winter coat and snowflakes coming down around her. The calendar also advertises Star Brand Shoes. Huffstutlers was owned by Walton Eldridge Huffstutler. Walton Huffstutler (1874-1944) was born in Alabama, son of Adam Huffstutler (19th Alabama Infantry, CSA) and Sarah Jane Ellis. Adam Huffstutler brought his family to Hill County, TX about 1895 where Walton attended university. About the year 1900 Walton arrived in Blooming Grove. He married Emma Sears in Navarro County and children of this marriage were Frances, Joe Don, and Walton Jr. By 1905 Walton had opened a dry goods store in Blooming Grove. Based on early maps of BG and discussions with locals I think Huffstutler's Dry Goods was located on the corner of South Main and Fordyce Streets, across from the present day BG Post Office. According to a later map it may have moved by 1921 a couple of doors down to the space where the northern part of Prosperity Bank now exists. Sewing machine sales and service were one of Huffstutler's main attractions.
