100 years ago today, on December 3rd, 1917 the residents of Blooming Grove were pleased to learn that their own Oscar Cortez Ingram had been promoted to First Sergeant in his World War 1 infantry unit. Oscar was born in Arkansas in 1889 to William Ingram and Mary Pond. After the war I believe he worked a good bit as a mechanic. He appears to have moved around some with his work, living in Dallas, Temple, and McAllen, but by the 1950s he had returned home to Blooming Grove. Oscar was married to Ms. Lula Bell. He lived to be 97 years old and is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery.
